FAQ about spray tanning
IS SPRAY TANNING SAFE?
Very safe. The active ingredient in today's sunless tanning products is dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a clear liquid that reacts with the amino acids in your skin to develop color. DHA, typically derived from plant based sources such as sugar beets, obtained FDA approval as a skin safe coloring agent 30 years ago. It has been safely used in thousands of cosmetic products worldwide as an alternative to a UV based tan.

HOW LONG WILL MY TAN LAST?
Your tan will look better and last longer if you follow our BEFORE and AFTER suggestions. With proper care and maintenance your spray tan should last from 5 to 10 days.

WHEN WILL MY TAN APPEAR?
In addition to DHA which begins to develop color in 4 to 6 hours, our solution also contains a cosmetic bronzer that is immediately visible.

CAN I CHOOSE HOW DARK I WANT TO BE?
Yes. The cosmetic bronzer's immediate visibility allows you and the technician to see and customize the color you are getting.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SPRAY TAN ME?
For a full body tan, the actual application usually takes about 10 minutes. Spray tans are scheduled 30 minutes apart so you will never feel rushed.

WILL PEOPLE KNOW I SPRAY TANNED?
Only if you want them to. Clients who choose to get a really dark tan are usually asked where they have been vacationing. Your spray tan will look like a natural sun tan. Where you got it is up to you.

DOES A SPRAY TAN HAVE SUNSCREEN?
No! Your spray tan is purely cosmetic. You will look like you have spent time in the sun but your skin will not be any more priotected from UV rays than it was before your spray tan. Please use sunscreen when you are going to be in the sun.

WHAT IF I HAVE A SKIN CONDITION?
A nice bronze tone on your skin will help to mask Rosacea or Acne and make skin appear clearer. People with vitiligo may need to tan as often as every other day, depending on skin color. If you have concerns please consult with your physician before spray tanning.

CAN A SPRAY TAN HIDE VARICOSE VEINS OR STRETCHMARKS?
The darker the skin tone, the less varicose veins and old stretchmarks will show. Newer stretchmarks will not be covered as well but as they age and heal they will disappear under your tan.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear loose fitting dark clothing and sandles. Our solution is a non-sticky, fast drying formula but if some does get onto your clothing (with the exception of silk, nylon and leather) it should come out easily in the wash.

Why does a spray tan from Champagne Salon & Day Spa look so much better than other spray tans I have had?
We are proud to say that this is, by far, the most FAQ we hear! When it comes to spray tanning, similar to any other specialized beauty treatment, there are a number of factors that will individually affect and collectively determine the end results.

The Technician: First, a human being is applying your tan (as opposed to a machine), allowing for a more precise application or just a spot application (i.e. legs, face, arms, etc.). Our technicians are experienced and know that the same application will not necessarily produce the same results on everyone. They know the benefits of all the sunless tanning products we carry and will make sure that you know how to keep your tan looking beautiful for as long as possible. Our spray tanning technicians, as well as our entire staff, really enjoy what they do. Everyone is positive, patient and genuinely dedicated to doing everything possible to ensure that your experience and services here exceed your expectations so that you look as forward to returning as we do to welcoming you again.

The Equipment: Superior to traditional airbrush systems, the recently introduced (airbrush) turbine system that we use is the most advanced technology available. A solution control knob that varies the spray from fine detailing to full-body spraying allows our technicians to give a spray tan that is customized to each client's body and skin tone, ensuring even coverage, less overspray, faster drying time and flawless results for each individual client every time.

The Solution: Determined to offer the very best spray tan possible, we researched and tested all of the top selling sunless tanning solutions on the market. We found two that consistently produced results far superior to any of the others. The ingredients are almost identical however, one gives a rich deep brown (best for almost everyone), while the other gives a more golden bronze color (better only on a select few). In addition to DHA which begins to develop color in 2-4 hours, our solutions also contain a cosmetic bronzer that is immediately visible, allowing the technician to truly customize the color and coverage so that each client's tan is perfect. Our solutions are Aloe Vera based products that are naturally good for your skin. The even, streak-free formulas have built in sheeting action to eliminate spotting and streaking. They also contain skin firming copper - for younger, healthy looking skin and caffeine which is proven to protect your skin from the detrimental effects of over exposure to the sun and to reduce cellulite! These fast drying, non-sticky formulas even have a proprietary odor inhibitor that virtually eliminates odor commonly associated with sunless products. The next day, after showering, if you feel that your tan is not dark enough we will gladly give you another application with no additional charge. If you are happy, we are happy. If you are not happy, we will make you happy.

Too Dark or Not Dark Enough?
Remember that your tan will continue to develop color for 6-12 hours. To remove or lighten your spray tan, wash with a good body scrub and loofah multiple times. After 24 hours, if your tan is not as dark as you would like we will gladly apply another coat. (Be sure to exfoliate your skin well before returning to tan again.)
